The 20th DuBois Alumni Association reunion is coming up this Labor Day Weekend, Aug. 29-31, 2014.  Whooooeee!!.  As usual, it will be full of exciting and interesting things to do.  “We’re coming home” is the theme this year.  For the first time ever, we are small enough to fit in Fayette, our home county.  Holiday Lodge in Oak Hill serves as our headquarters and they are out to serve us well.  We will have music, food and fun.  This is a run-down of events.

Friday evening is our get together.  We meet, greet, sit down and eat all the while listening to great music from the DJ. This is also the time to schedule times for the oral history interviews on Saturday morning at the hotel. (Discussed more in next paragraph) So, Nicky and Jean will be around chatting with you. Remember, this is our history and we must be the ones to tell it.

DuBois on Main is so happy to be doing a couple new things for the reunion attendees this year.  Since we are about exhibiting the rich history of DuBois High School, we submitted a grant proposal to The Greater Mount Hope Foundation to conduct a pilot program wherein students would be taught to collect the oral history of DuBois students. The foundation was very pleased to support this historic project. Students have been trained and will conduct these interviews on Saturday along with their trainers at the hotel.

Additionally, reunion attendees will have the opportunity to take a bus tour traveling through some of the little towns students lived in while attending DuBois after visiting the Major General Charles Rogers bridge in Cotton Hill.  The highlight of the tour will be the stop at DuBois on Main Museum where visitors will have an opportunity to do a variety of things.  Those include  viewing “The Echo”, the best high school newspaper ever,  pictures, artifacts, watching videos of  museum activities, painting on the mural, purchasing one of the brand new DuBois throws from our gift shop AND eating lunch provided by us!  During this time, students will be busy doing more interviews and catching snippets of activity.

After this activity, we head back to the hotel to get ready for the evening activities.  See you there.
