Thanks to all those DuBois students from years ago who kept documentation of their school days. Some are Alma Freeman Fleming, Deanna Rose Yarborough, Lois, Dan, Norma and Dorothy Christian, Steward and Clarence Frazier, Janice Muse Thomas, Edwin Hannah, Eunice B. Fleming, Layton Calloway, Jordan Evans, Bobby Lewis, Willie Mae Whittler, Arthur Hall, Joe Johnson, Nellie Jordan, Helen Powell, Ruby Hooper Evans, Edmonia Martin Neuman, Eunice Bloodworth Potts’ daughter, and the many others who donated and still…plan to donate those newspapers, diplomas, pictures, artifacts, etc…all are extremely important. Because if that had not happened, this upcoming event would not be taking place. Understand, you would not be reading what I am writing. It would not exist! The museum would not exist because there would be nothing to collect and exhibit.
Our history has not been kept by the state BOE and artifacts probably rest on various shelves in the area….without stories as to who and what they represent.
Save evidence of your own history. Tell children the stories even if you think they don’t want to hear it. Figure out a way to get them involved in learning their history. Make it fun and games. If you don’t care, no one else will. Preserve…. Thanks and I’ll see you around….
